NorthCare Charity
Emotive filmmaking for a charity
The Brief
Make a film to help our fundraising efforts
Activity
NorthCare Charity is the fundraising arm of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. The team works with communities, schools and businesses to raise additional funding for the hospitals and community services within the Trust.
NorthCare asked us to create a series of films to showcase the impact of its work on patients and their families.
In the first film, we focused on Andy who was treated at the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital following a serious cycling accident. After he was discharged, Andy was determined to give something back and help raise funds to build a new major trauma unit, including a helipad, at Salford Royal Hospital.
The team at RMS began by storyboarding and planning out each scene, including interviews at various locations with Andy, his wife Jacky and the clinical director for Major Trauma. These key scenes were interspersed with B-Roll film that included scenes of the newly built RAPTOR Theatre at Salford Royal and drone shots of the helipad.
Everything from the camera angles to the lighting and locations, and even the music was given careful consideration.
Hours of footage was finally edited into a seven-and-a-half-minute film which told the story of Andy’s harrowing ordeal turned wholesome experience, and also highlighted the amazing accomplishments of the charity in helping improve the care given to people like Andy.
‘Andy’s Story’ was premiered at a NorthCare Charity fundraising event, where it received extremely high praise from the entire team at the Trust and the stars themselves!
