The Fallibroome Trust

Naming and branding an educational trust

The Brief

Develop a new name and corporate identity for our organisation.

Activity

The Fallibroome Trust was established in 2014 and had adopted the name of its first member school.

Having grown to 10 member schools, it was felt that a new name and brand identity were required to counter perceptions that one ‘dominant’ school was responsible for running the Trust.

A change would also bring clarity to future marketing and communications; unite all stakeholders under one fresh new identity; and signal the Trust’s success and ambition for further growth.

Due to the sensitivities involved and the need to ensure trustees, heads, teachers, support staff, pupils and parents were ‘on board’, we held a series of workshops to establish what people thought and valued most about the Trust.

Having collated all feedback, our creative team started working on suitable names. They were keen to propose a name that meant something and provided the Trust with an ‘origin story’.

A shortlist of names, with accompanying rationale, was presented via a short film to stakeholders across all 10 schools. An online poll encouraged everyone to vote for their favourite (quite appropriate while the UK was in the throes of a General Election!).

Much to our delight, The Halliard Trust emerged as a clear favourite, supported by ‘All together stronger schools’ as a strapline. And if you’re wondering … we loved the analogy of a strong rope or cable made from separate strands woven together to produce something with greater strength than the sum of its parts.

After researching many names associated with rope and cables, we found ‘halliard’ which is a rope used for hoisting a sail to enable travel.

Not only did this provide a lovely narrative for members of the Trust to use in all marketing and communications, it gave our designers wonderful visual inspiration.
